CPU Design 0.2

Microprocessors are currently the only hardware you can design and sell.

They become available after researching 'CPU Development' in Research & Development.

Levels

New Hardware 0.2

You receive experience for each designed CPU. You gain one level after gaining 100 experience. Higher CPU levels decrease design time and are necessary to unlock new technologies.

Clock Speed

Clock speed affects mainly CPU's performance, as for stability, it slightly decreases as clock rate increases. Lowest clock speed is 100kHz, and 200kHz is the default max after researching CPU Development.

See R&D for various max clock speed research.

Current maximum clock speed is 61.8 MHz, achievable with 100% build quality on a 300 pin PGA.

Cores

Cores have been added in 0.2.8. There are 4 selectable core technologies in the game, Single-core is always available while the 3 other ones have to be researched.

Name Cost Time Unit Cost Performance Stability Build Max Clock (%)
Single-core $20,000 40D $6 5 15 5 100
Experimental dual-core $150,000 120D $30 80 -7 1 45
Basic dual-core $160,000 125D $27 108 3 6 52
Dual-core $175,000 120D $35 130 12 15 62

Max clock % decides how fast the clock can be. For example, if you select Basic dual-core and had researched '30 MHz max clock speed' the highest clock speed you can achieve is 15 MHz (assuming the selected package can support it and you've set build quality to 96%).

Packages

0.2

There are 36 packages to choose from. DIP14 is available by default after researching CPU Development. PLCC24 is available after researching DIP48, and PGA48 unlocks after researching PLCC84.

Prices were heavily cut down in the 0.2.8.2 update.

Build Quality

It's adjustable with the slider and can range from 50% to 100%. It affects maximum clock speed (50% build quality is 66.66% clock frequency and 100% amounts to 103% max clock), build stat of your CPU (50% build quality is 90% and 100% is 100% build) and the unit cost of your CPU.
